Jan and Aya 2008

Found this photo last night of my two little sunshines... how many other little magical moments have I forgotten in my archives?

OATMEAL

small bowl of oats with blueberries and agave sugar
blue cap and rubber band
that you left on the counter this morning for me.
I held on to it with pride
imagining the flavor in my mouth
your taste in the softness of the porridge
suddenly they were gone
I traced my steps to realize they were left on the bus
a bit of love
forgotten on the back seat.

STREET SHEETS

days and nights are blurring
tangled sheets listen
the streets my blanket.
how did I get to work today?
wiping tears off time
making my children's beds
I forgot they lived here
.....only for a moment...
what was said
on the shores of the reservoir?
only remember rocks
washed with pain
and laughter.

After Work with Lucky Dragons- Todd Colby

Let the spirit lift you

into forgiveness. Perhaps your grief
is universal after all. They are handing
out bags of cash to the leaders
of the worst fed countries. I would
like someone to step in and pay my
rent, wash my back, fix my socks,
take my laundry in, and get me a ream of paper
so I can keep writing notes to the women
I love. There are people I know about from
reading the sky above what I lack.
I mean, in my home I put my hands above
my head and raise them. I say "in the house"
when I am making this gesture. I say "face"
when I do something better than you.
I get all "I am too tired from making a living
to load the taco or pick up my towel
or write this for you." Things are like this.
People are suffering outside right now
with signs that say as much as they can hold.
These are letters are holding the page up,
giving it structure, providing your eyes
with something to do other than just stare.
I am coming for you. You will know when I get there
when you are flooded with stuff I can't explain.

community of the spirit- rumi

There is a community of the spirit.
Join it, and feel the delight
of walking in the noisy street
and being the noise.

Drink all your passion,
and be a disgrace.

Close both eyes
to see with the other eye.

Open your hands,
if you want to be held.

Sit down in the circle.

Quit acting like a wolf, and feel
the shepherd's love filling you.

At night, your beloved wanders.
Don't accept consolations.

Close your mouth against food.
Taste the lover's mouth in yours.

You moan, "She left me." "He left me."
Twenty more will come.

Be empty of worrying.
Think of who created thought!

Why do you stay in prison
when the door is so wide open?

Move outside the tangle of fear-thinking.
Live in silence.

Flow down and down in always
widening rings of being.

Eagle Street Farm

It has been quite a while since my last post... no excuses, but life and it's different storms to weather.
Our visit at Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint Brooklyn this sunday was one of those little slices of peaceful play that brought so much joy to the children. From it's amazing views, digging in the dirt and feeding the chickens all that was needed was our sun hats. Here are a few photos to celebrate the day.

april babies

April was baby season... (wonder what was going on 9 months ago?).
Coworkers and friends bring new little beings into this world and more to come in May and June.
Clockwise from top left here are: Baby Jude from our staff photographer Johnny and his wife Marisa, Makenzie and Christopher's little March, River with brother Mikus (daughter of Llubav and Chris), and March and Christopher's breathtaking first meeting.

Rachel Feinstein

I have a soft spot for the nursing mother, breast feeding, and babies... I think it is just one of the best experiences in life and having nursed two children, well into their first year, I always get excited when women have the guts to show it off a bit.
I started this blog 3 years ago with a racy Terry Richardson photo from french Milk Magazine and now this one of John Currin's wife (and artist) Rachel Feinstein with their very cherubic daughter Flora in this month's issue of Vogue, by Annie Lebowitz (of course). And since I'm on the subject I might as well add Maggie gyllenhall, "au naturel" in nyc with her daughter.

pretty amazing

take your kids to work day

Äya was able to come with me to work this year for day of fun filled activities at Martha. From Gardening to glittering and yoga, 30 or more 5-12 years olds filled our studios with squeals and laughter. Aya found a new friend in Darcy's daughter Daisy, and along with her sister Ella, were up to tons of mischief including locking themselves in Darcy's office!
Next year Jan will be joining in on the fun!

almost 10 years

Kai and I had our 8th anniversary on april 6th and I have to admit, it was probably the best one yet! Does this mean things get better? I certainly think so. We happen to run into our friend Shan that day who took this photo... for those of you who don't know, he was our wedding photographer as well.
And just today, our friend Haven, posted a photo of us 9 years ago on facebook.
As Kai quoted "nothing has changed..."

Brooklyn Bowl

So this has been the week for discovering local play areas and sunday proved to be a load of fun at the Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. Apparently a completely green venture, 10 years in the making. Amazing fried chicken and other goodies by Blue Ribbon, a dance and concert space, turn of the century coney island vibe and leather sofas as you bowl.
We met up with our lovely friends Tommy & Karyn (soon to be married!) while Aya bonded with Tommy's daughter Marlena over milkshakes. Jan showed off his moves on the bowling lane (can you believe they make bowling shoes in infants size 10?). Definitely the place to be on a cold winter's day.
Some pictures to enjoy!
